I need help?

i have a friend that was stopped by a police officer for having a fake tag on his car the police officer not only arrested him but took the title to his car and refuse to give it back until the court date which was pushed back from next month to next year and u know if a car stays more that 30 days in impound they sell it so i want to know what should he do the get his title back. he has a lawyer but the lawyer doesnt seem to enthusiastic about this plz any advice (the cop made a remake saying u will neva see this car again)
