Why should American taxpayers subsidize NPR & PBS?

unlike right wing radio which has lots of support of sponsors and advertising, not to mention lots of people listening, PBS and NPR cant keep a show afloat without taxpayer funding. I say if they cant stay above water without our handouts, let them sink
